HISTORY
Aichi Prefecture is the hometown of the warlords Nobunaga, Hideyoshi and Ieyasu. The generals flourished in Nagoya and greatly influenced the history of Japan. Nagoya Castle and the castle town are the foundations of the present Nagoya.

Nagoya City
Central Area
The central area of Nagoya City, including Nagoya Station, Sakae, and Osu, is a vibrant hub. Nagoya Station is a key transportation junction where JR, the subway, Kintetsu, and Meitetsu lines converge, and it is surrounded by large commercial complexes such as the JR Gate Tower and Midland Square. The Sakae area is the largest entertainment district in the Chubu region, known for its unique fashion buildings and trendy restaurants, making it the center of Nagoya’s fashion scene. The Osu area, centered around Osu Kannon Temple, is a diverse and lively neighborhood that offers everything from historic temples and long-established shops to the latest subculture spots and local idol groups.


Eastern Area
The eastern area of Nagoya, including neighborhoods like Kakuozan, Higashiyama Park, and Hoshigaoka, is home to upscale residential districts. One highlight is the sophisticated shopping complex “Hoshigaoka Terrace,” which features an open-air mall where visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature and the changing seasons. Additionally, the Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens, which boasts the largest number of animal species in Japan and displays around 7,000 types of plants, is another must-visit spot. Notable attractions include Shabani, the “handsome gorilla,” and the zoo’s famous koala, which are definitely worth seeing.
Western Area
The area around Nagoya Port, Japan’s leading port in terms of cargo volume, export value, and trade surplus, is also known for its many factories and stunning night views. Notable attractions include the “Nagoya Port Aquarium”, one of Japan’s largest, featuring around 500 species and 50,000 marine creatures, and “Legoland Japan”, where over 10,000 Lego models are displayed. With ongoing redevelopment, this area is becoming an even more exciting destination, popular for family trips.


Southern Area
The area includes Meijo University’s Tenpaku and Yagoto campuses. The entire neighborhood is well-maintained, with plenty of nature, such as Tenpaku River, Tenpaku Park, and Aioiyama Green Space. It’s a quiet residential area, offering a great environment for both comfortable living and focused studying, making it one of the top areas in Nagoya. For sightseeing, you can enjoy the historic atmosphere of the Arimatsu area along the old Tokaido road.
Northern Area
This area is home to Meijo University’s Nagoya Dome-mae Campus. It also features iconic landmarks such as Nagoya Castle, also known as “Kinshachi Castle,” and the Nagoya Dome, the home stadium of the professional baseball team Chunichi Dragons. Visitors can also enjoy nature at places like Meijo Park Flower Plaza, Higashiyama Fruit Park, and Tokugawa-en Garden, offering a rich natural environment to explore.
